"Her Own Happily Ever After: Black Motherhood, Broken Systems, and Building Our Dreams" examines the tension Black student parents face between motherhood and higher education, centered on the story of Amari Simmons, a Generation Hope Dallas Scholar who left Prairie View A&M after becoming pregnant due to a lack of institutional flexibility and support. Woven with reflections from Generation Hope founder Nicole Lynn Lewis's own experience as a teen mother, the piece explores identity loss, systemic barriers to childcare and enrollment, and Amari's path back to school at the University of North Texas — reframing her nonlinear journey as a redefinition of success on her own terms.
